Weird news from BleedingCool, I discovered it just today:

"Yesterday, Bleeding Cool reported how today's Valen The Outcast Joe Jusko 1-200 cover variant was rather… limited. That only 25 were going to qualifying stores who ordered the required amount. And that the rest of the 500 print run would be burned.

Some people thought that was a joke. Well, yesterday, they actually did it. Here we have writer Michael Alan Nelson, Steve Niles and Boom! staffers setting the remaining print run on fire.

Yup, a good old fashioned book burning. And with each flame licking along the stapled edges, those remaining 25 copies get more and more scarce"

here's a video of Michael Alan Nelson burning copies of "Valen the Outcast" #1:

It makes a strange effect recognizing my pages while they're burning.... sigh!

Exactly - so I was left not liking them for deliberately killing trees for zero benefit. I already dislike print for that in general, now we have to kill trees, waste energy and ink to put pics on the pages, then burn them just for marketing purposes? Bleh.

Publicity, scarcity, I get the motivation. But there's still something unsettling about any type of book burning.

I know at some stores when they want to get rid of a book the just tear the cover off. It really makes the book not worth anything. But the burning does seem a level that is completely unnecessary. :(
